(image courtesy The Globe and Mail)News from various sources, mostly emanating from a report in the Toronto Star, says that 25-year old Abdullah Khadr, the oldest of four sons of an al-Qaeda financier and activist, has been arrested in Toronto.

He is being held in a jail in Toronto, following a request from the US Department of Justice. Bloomberg states that in an interview earlier this month, Khadr claimed that he was not a terrorist. He had attended the Khaldan camp in Afghanistan when he was 13.

Dennis Edney, his lawyer, has said Khadr faces charges of "possession and use of a destructive device in furtherance of a crime of violence that is conspiracy to murder a U.S. national outside of the U.S."

From CTV.Ca: "The cops said they were acting on a provisional warrant from the United States," Edney said. "I can't say he sounded worried. I think he is in a state of shock."

Khadr was arrested by officers of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) at a private residence in Toronto.

Abdullah Khadr is the son of Ahmed Said Khadr, who was an Egyptian-born Canadian. He acted as a financier for al-Qaeda. He was killed in Pakistan two years ago, when a Pakistani government helicopter shelled a house which contained al-Qaeda operatives, and Khadr senior.

According to 640 Toronto, each of the four siblings in the family have been jailed and accused of links to terrorism."

CTV states that Abdullah Khadr's mother created a fuss during the arrest, which happened on Saturday night at 7 pm, and she was detained temporarily without being charged. On the miscreant siblings:

Abdul Khadr, 15, lives in Scarborough after being paralyzed in the gun battle with Pakistani security forces that left his father dead.

Omar Khadr, 19, is being held in the American detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He has been charged with murder for the death of a U.S. medic in Afghanistan during a 2002 gun battle.

Abdurahman Khadr, 22, was captured in Afghanistan by the Northern Alliance and says he briefly worked for the CIA as an informant in Guantanamo Bay. He returned to Canada in December 2003 and is currently fighting a court case with the government to obtain a passport.

Abdullah Khadr had been in Pakistan, only returning to Canada at the start of this month. He said that he was held in a Pakistani prison for 14 months, where he claims he was interrogated.
