Holland: Islamic College Will Ignore Headscarf Ruling
We reported on October 17 that Samira Haddad, a 32-year old teacher (and a Muslim) from Amsterdam, had been refused employment by the Islamic College of Amsterdam (ICA) because she refused to wear a Muslim headscarf. She was taking her case to the Netherlands Equality Commission (CGB), to challenge the school's decision.
On November 15 the Equality Commission ruled that the ICA had been wrong to refuse Tunisian-born Ms Haddad employment. The school had said that if she was not a Muslim, she would have faced no impediment to being employed without wearing a Muslim headscarf, or hijab.
The ICA was asked by the Equality Commission to report back with their response to their decision on December 13th. The decision made by the Equality Commission is not legally binding, but in 85% of cases, their rulings are met with compliance. When asked to submit a response last month, a spokesperson said the ICA was "not happy" with the ruling, but would make no comments until their submission to the Equality Commission.
Today, according to NIS News and Expatica, the Islamic College of Amsterdam has made its opinions known. It will ignore the ruling, and continue to disbar Muslim women job applicants who refuse to wear the headscarf, or hijab.
"The necessity for this is inherent in our philosophy of life and the rules that are part of this, as they were given to us by God. Certain clothing requirements simply go with the Islamic faith," the school maintained in a statement released today.
The statement was made in a response to an exhortation by Ahmed Aboutaleb, Amsterdam education alderman, for the school to implement the policy-change suggested by the CGB.

Where in the Koran is hair covering required?

Bill;
A Muslim would tell you that the Koran is not the only source of Islamic Law. (And they would be correct.) Don't fall for the "Where in the Koran is..." line. Many Muslim liars use it to great effect in their misinformation efforts.

The Noble Qur'an - Al-Ahzab 33:59
O Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks (veils)* all over their bodies (i.e. screen themselves completely except the eyes or one eye to see the way). That will be better, that they should be known (as free respectable women) so as not to be annoyed. And Allah is Ever Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
The translation is loaded, as it was on a site which sells nikabs and hijabs. The Penguin edition translation is more ambiguous, and refers to "modesty". And the bit about "being annoyed" refers to rape.
