Australia: Details in Muslim Cleric's Deportation Ruled "Secret"
With a hat tip to Robert Spencer's Jihad Watch, a report from News.com.au today describes the case of the Australian Shia Muslim cleric, Monsour Leghaei (pictured).
We reported on November 7 on the case of 43-year old Iranian-born Sheikh Leghaei, who emigrated to Australia in 1994. Leghaei has been listed by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) as a threat to national security who had further stated that he had been involved in "acts of foreign interference."
New.com.au states that Federal Court Justice Rodney Madgwick, who a month ago ruled that Leghaei's appeal against the ASIO assessment was void, today handed down his written explanation of the judgement.
His written submission states that Australia's concerns about national security came above Mr Leghaei's rights to know the details and reasons for his deportation.
"It appears that it was not possible to put even a summary of the case against the applicant to him without compromising the interests of national security," Justice Madgwick wrote, and he acknowledged Leghaei had performed "valuable community services" during his stay in Australia.
Imam Sheikh Mansour Leghaei was the founder and religious director of the Imam Husain Islamic Centre and the School of Islamic Theology in Earlwood, Sydney. He is currently on a bridging visa while he awaits deportation.
