US: Two More Black Muslims Held

We reported earlier on the violence against stores in Oakland which were told not to sell alcohol by a group of a dozen smartly dressed black men, who appeared to be Muslims.

Refrigeration display units containing alcohol were smashed, along with liquor and other produce. An arson attack and a kidnapping of a store-clerk followed. The clerk was found locked in the trunk of a car in a Safeway car park. Arrest warrants were made for six people, all Black Muslims associated with Your Black Muslim Bakery.

Yusuf Bey seniorTwo of these surrendered to the police. They were 19 year old Yusuf Bey IV, heir to the empire of the late Yusef Bey (pictured), founder of the Black Muslims and Your Black Muslim Bakery, and 73-year old Donald Cunningham, a clarinetist and longtime friend of the late Yusuf Bey.

Yusuf Bey IV raised bail of $200,000 and walked free on Saturday. SInce then, Cunningham too has managed to secure his bail.

The Oakland Tribune states that now two more individuals from Your Black Muslim Bakery have been arrested in connection with vandalism of two stores on November 23.

Yasir Hakeem Azzem, aged 19, and 24-year old Kahlil Raheem bring the total arrested so far to four, and they too are being held in custody against a $200,000 bail. Azzem and Raheem were identified in a surveillance video from the night of November 23 at San Pablo Market and Liquor. They have yet to be positively linked to the other attack that night, upon the New York Market.

Police say they have identified more individuals from the video and are looking to arrest them.

Yusuf Bey IV decided to have a press conference outside the main outlet of Your Black Muslim Bakery on San Pablo Avenue. His words sound like a justification of the vandalism. "I've lived in Oakland all my life, and I've noticed the growing violence...I've noticed the homicides, drug dealers and prostitution that goes on around these places," he stated. He argued that the Muslim owners of liquor stores who come from Arab countries are acting against Islam. "In their home countries they'd be killed for selling alcohol."
