UK: Muslim Accused Of Plotting to Kill Iraqi War Hero

Abu Baker Mansha, a British Muslim, is on trial at Southwark Crown Court, charged under the Terrorism Act, states the Times today (8 Dec). He was caught in possession of a gun in his his London flat. The gun had been a blank-firing one to a modified lethal weapon, the jury was told.

Prosecutors state that Mansha had intended to use the weapon to hunt and kill one Corporal Mark Byles, whose address was also discovered in the flat. Corporal Byles had earlier featured in a UK newspaper article, in which mention was made of him killing nearly 20 insurgents in Iraq. Byles had been given a bravery award, the Military Cross. It is alleged Mansha gathered Byles' name from the electoral register.

The jury was also told of "stacks of DVDs" being found in his flat, including ones featuring Osama bin Laden, and video footage of Liverpudlian hostage, Ken Bigley, having his head sawn off. Mansha also had a poem he had written, in which he called George Bush and Tony Blair as "dirty pigs"
