OIC: Musharraf Calls for "Islamic Renaissance"

Two things:

1. To have a 're-birth' (for that's what 'Renaissance' means), you need to have had a birth in the first place. The era of Islamic dominance in science and philosophy is nothing but a modern myth inspired by political correctness.

2. To be more specific, the "great Islamic scholars" "Al Ghazali, Ibne Rushd and Ibne Seena," were not that great, and often were not that Islamic. I know this because I've read their works, an excercise that is not apparently required before praising them to no end.

With that said, here is the story: Musharraf calls for an Islamic 'Renaissance'

Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf believes an Islamic renaissance much on the lines of the Renaissance that brought Europe out from the dark ages, can salvage Islam from terrorism.

Musharraf in his speech at the Third Extraordinary Summit of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), said that Islamic countries should shun preaching violence and pursue transparent and accountable governance, develop human resources and promote full respect of human rights, especially of women and children.

"From this holy city of peace and tolerance, I appeal to all extremists in our society to see reason, and shun the path of violence. Senseless acts of terrorism committed by a handful of misguided individuals while claiming to act in the name of Islam have maligned our noble faith of peace, tolerance and compassion," Musharraf said.

"We must condemn and reject all forces of terrorism and extremism, banning organisations, which preach hate and violence. We must promote the Islamic values of tolerance and moderation," he said.[...]
