Pakistan Is "A Moderate Islamic Democratic State" - And Pigs Lay Eggs
A report by Pakistan Link describes an encounter made between the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shaukat Aziz, and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams.
In Orwellian Newspeak, worthy of Iraq's "Comical Ali", the Pakistani PM said that his country is a moderate Islamic Democratic State, and that there is "complete interfaith harmony among the people belonging to various religions". The article is written in Minglish, so it is better perhaps to give some quotes:
The Prime Minister said Islam is religions of peace and tolerance which teaches brotherhood and promotes inter religion harmony. He said it is against all type of terrorism and violence and supports peace, love and affection among various communities to ensure a peaceful society. There is more of this propaganda, but I would advise you to read it in its entirety, should you need to be entertained. Pakistan is obviously not a dictatorship. The recent incidents which we reported upon, such as the burning of churches in Sangla Hill, the rape of Christian girls in forced conversion attempts, as well as abduction of Hindus to become Muslims, are all fantasies, which we at Western Resistance should really feel ashamed of. And the fact that Pakistan has blasphemy laws which stipulate the death penalty for offending Islam are true signs of "tolerance" towards other faiths. He said sense of deprivation and lack of access to education causes extremism and there is need to move forward towards implementing President Pervez Musharraf 's concept of enlightened moderation to bring peace in the world and uplift of the people. He said the government is taking concrete measures to promote interfaith harmony in Pakistan to ensure peace and smooth social economic development.
He said the government in Pakistan is making all out efforts to promote education and all levels which helps promoting moderation and harmony and situation has considerably been improved in the last few years. He said majority of Pakistanis are moderate and they do not believe in extremism.
Rather than spend unnecessary time detailing exact links, I suggest you go to the search tool on the front page, and type in the word "Pakistan". Even better, type in the words "Pakistan" and "Christian". Read some of the articles. Then see if you agree with Shaukat Aziz.
More of the same bull, again from Pakistan, from the Associated Pakistan Press which claims that the world should be looking to Pakistan and Indonesia as examples of the "true" face of Islam. The article states that this was the message conveyed from Musharraf and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, on the occasion of a visit by the latter to Pakistan. Well, judging by the appalling disinterest shown by these leaders when minorities such as Christians are abused and even massacred, their view of how an Islamic country should be is obviously one that treats its minorities as second-class citizens. Truly Islamic.

Pakistan has its problems. But its really irritating when americans suggest this. This article should have read "America want peace and harmony around the world and want all religions to live side by side with no discrimunation--And America will win the next cricket world cup.
