US: Al-Qaeda Islamist Found On Mexican Border
From the Free Republic, an account of an al-Qaeda operative who was captured near the Mexican border. The man, a confirmed al-Qaeda terrorist, who was on the FBI's watch list, is an Iraqi. He was picked up near a town called El Porvenir, near Fort Hancock, and taken to Brewter County Jail, Texas. From there, he was handed over to the FBI.
Rep. John Culberson told ABC radio that the man had been living in the area for a year, "taking careful notes on the movement of people, police officers, wildlife etc.", but did something to offend a Mexican neighbour, who turned him over to the authorities. The Mexicans then handed him over to sheriffs in the US, who banged him up in Brewster County Jail.
Culberson said that the event had taken place six weeks ago, but agreed that the time for the news to be made public required some deep investigation. He told the Seattle station that the Director of the FBI, Robert Mueller, had said earlier that terrorists of Arab origins, from Yemen, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, etc, were crossing the border masquerading as Hispanic immigrants, and then disappearing.
"The day they blow us up," he predicted, "the border will be sealed tighter than the Berlin Wall and you'll have armed United States' military forces" enforcing immigration laws.
