Thailand: Suspected Islamist Bombs Injure 12 At Border

In Narathiwat province, southern Thailand, two bombs exploded at Sungai Golok, close to the Malaysian border, earlier today, reports Bangkok Post. One bomb went off in a restaurant and twenty minutes later another exploded at a border market, injuring eleven Thai nationals and one Malaysian.

A police official told the Thai News Agency that the coordination of the bombings indicated Islamists were responsible. The first bomb went off at 6.10 am, and was detonated by a timing mechanism, blowing a hole in the road and shattering windows.

The second blast happened behind a house, 30 yards from the first explosion, damaging a door and a wall. At the time people were doing early household shopping, but none of those wounded were in a serious condition.
