Iran: Islamist Republic Blames Israel For Jordanian Bombing
Once again, Islamist conspiracy theories are given precedence over facts in the Iran of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The recent bombings in Amman, Jordan, which killed 57 people on November 9th were declared by al-Qaeda in Iraq to have been their doing. The failed suicide bomber whose husband blew up the Radisson SAS hotel while a wedding reception was taking place, Sajida Mubarek Atrous al-Rishawi, has even confessed openly on Jordanian television to being sponsored by al-Qaeda in Iraq, which is led by Jordanian Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
But such admissions are not enough for the despots in Iran, according to World Net Daily who report the statement of Hamid Reza Asefi. Asefi is the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman, and he said: "The explosions in Jordan are a suspicious matter. Most probably the Zionist regime (Israel) was behind them."
Asefi went on to condemn the terrorist attacks. To blame them on Israel is a further display of the rabid hatred being engendered in Iran at this time. On October 23, Ali Akbar Mohtashamipur, the secretary-general of the International Conference to Support the Palestinian Intifada announced that Islamic countries consorting with Israel are criminal.
Two days later, President Ahmadinejad made his notorious speech in which he announced that Israel should be "wiped off the map", which received worldwide condemnation. He repeated these views to a meeting of pro-Palestinian vigilantes. Then on October 28, the hardline Islamist president again reiterated his contempt for Israel, this time backed up by senior Shia cleric Ayatollah Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
