Israel: Four Islamists Killed Since Yesterday

Today, Arutz Sheva announces that four Islamists have been killed in four separate operations by IDF, over thepast two days. The Times reports that Condoleeza Rice, the US Secretary of State is in Israel in an effort to revive peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians. Before her planned visit to the West Bank, IDF operatives shot Amjad al-Hinawi, a leader of Hamas, in Nablus in the West Bank.

A military official told the Times that al-Hinawi had been involved with anti-Israeli attacks since 1996 and had recently been forming a cell of militants in Nablus. "Therefore, we decided to operate against him," the official stated.

In the Gaza Strip, another Palestinian was killed and two others wounded in a shoot-out with Israeli border guards. These were said to be from the Popular Resistance Committee. Today, Ms Rice is scheduled to attend memorial ceremonies for Yitzhak Rabin, who was killed 10 years ago, before visiting Jordan to pay her condolences to those relatives of people killed in last week's bomb blasts.

Arutz Sheva states that al-Hinawi had been killed outside his home at Shechem near Nablus this morning. As IDF, police and security forces approached, he had come out carrying a Kalashnikov rifle, and had begun firing, before he was shot dead.

Yesterday (Sunday), an IDF team identified two terrorists at Jenin. The terrorists had apparently been on a trip to attack another IDF unit. Soldiers opened fire and wounded one, but both briefly escaped, taking refuge in a house. The soldiers followed, and shot and killed one of the terrorists, who was identified as Shajila Bilawi, who was on a wanted list.

The incident today in the Gaza strip in which a man was killed and two were injured happened as the man who was killed was attempting to launch a mortar shell. Yesterday one terrorist in the Gaza strip was killed by IDF as he tried to place a bomb.
