Lebanon: Bakri Warns of Muslim Riots in Britain
The radical cleric who ran away from Britain before receiving a free angioplasty has been raising his blood pressure with more fiery words. Omar Bakri Mohammed, the idoliser of the 7/7 suicide-killers and patron of radical groups Al-Muhajiroun (which he led), and also Hizb ut-Tahrir (which he once ran), and also the Saviour Sect and Al-Ghurabaa, has been making threatening noises from his bolthole in Lebanon, according to Newswatch.
Bakri, who has dual Syrian/Lebanese nationality, has threatened that Paris-style riots would break out if Britain was able to introduce its raft of anti-terrorism laws, which are being currently debated in the House of Commons. The threat of riots is interesting, as Hizb ut-Tahrir similarly threatened that there would be riots on Britain's streets by young Muslims if Tony Blair banned Hizb ut-Tahrir. This threat was made in August, when Hizb ut-Tahrir said that they would not be able to prevent the "anger of the young people."
Bakri stated that Britain is "missing" him already. (!) Speaking before Tony Blair lost his battle in the commons to have the detention of terror suspects without charge set at a maximum of 90 days (it was reduced to 28 in a second vote), he stated:
"Ninety days is not the right direction and it shows how much decline there has been in Britain for human rights since July. I'm afraid it will happen again and again unless they [the Government] listen. Ninety days will create more hatred and more isolation, so more people will go underground. There could be more acts of terrorism and maybe even an uprising like in France."He said he was being sent funds from the Muslim community in Britain and thanked them. He said he could not work in Lebanon. "I'm rejected. Whenever I try to start a business the authorities close it down because the British Government make a noise, but what can I do?" He also said that he was the only person who could save Muslim youth. We reported earlier how four of his UK apostles had been deported back to Britain, including Anjem Choudray, who said after his arrival on Saturday that he would be going back to Lebanon. He said the reason given for his deportation was because of his visa, which he refuted. He added: "Too much pressure became a revolution in France. This could spread to Britain unless they stop pressuring people. They have said enough is enough. You can't be labelled extremists without this happening. People become angry.
"Britain should take lessons and not put pressure on the Muslim community. What happened in Birmingham could spread over the UK."
He added: "White people in the UK should say 'No, not in our name: stop it!'"
Choudray, who was a key figure in Al-Muhajiroun, which has caused at least one suicide bombing (at Mike's bar in Tel Aviv), said that Bakri was setting up a madrassa school in Lebanon, where students would learn Arabic in six-month courses. 38-year old Choudray, a lawyer, said that Bakri's family may be challenging Britain's decision to ban Bakri from Britain. He said: "Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed is always very vocal and wherever he is, he won't stop his call to Islam and exposing the oppressive regimes around the world."
Earlier, we reported on the re-emergence of the al-Ghurabaa site which has now been reactivated, and how Bakri's "sermons" were reappearing there. Bakri has used the internet before for disseminating his "philosophy". In January he used a PalTalk website to broadcast nightly messages of Jihad.
In September, he announced that "There must be two distinct camps and so all Muslims must leave Europe," said Bakri, declaring that he was convinced "the Islamic flag will fly one day over Downing Street." According to abc.net.au he had urged all Muslims to leave the country, and that they should join him in Lebanon.
