Lebanon: Bakri's Islamist Followers Deported To UK

A report from today's Times brings the news that four of the key followers of Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed (pictured left, impersonating Julie Andrews) have been expelled back to Britain.

The irony is that at the same time, Britain is trying to expel from its own shores Lebanese radicals who have been seen as a terrorism risk. Bakri fled to Lebanon on the pretext of visiting his mother, but it is widely viewed that he fled before he was placed in detention.

Among those sent back to the UK is British advocate of terror atrocities Anjem Choudhary, who fled to be with Bakri when he too feared being detained. Choudhary made himself even more unpopular in Britain when he taunted the relatives and victims of the 7/7 bombings on Sky TV News, at the same time that they were holding a memorial service in St Paul's Cathedral. The former coordinator of the terrorist group Al-Muhajiroun, which is now disbanded, has been typically vocal about the injustices of this affair.

Choudhary has been whining about how it was the fault of the Foreign and Commonwealth office for arranging the deportations. He has, in his typical spoiled child manner complained that his deportation is "outrageous", even though he was smiling when he was sneering at the relatives and injured of 7/7, which most reasonable people would conclude is far more "outrageous".

Choudhary has complained of UK interference in the life and dealings of his mentor, saying: "The British Government has put a lot of pressure on Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammad ever since he’s been there. He's been interrogated again and again by the various sections of the security services there whether that be the army or the internal security service." He says that poor Bakri is being "isolated" by having anyone who helps him deported.

Bakri used to run the UK branch of Hizb ut-Tahrir, and famously called the four suicide bombers who killed 52 people on 7/7 "the fantastic four". His spiritual leadership of Al-Muhajiroun extended to its break-away groups which continued when it was officially disbanded, the Saviour Sect and Al Gurabaa. While he was allowed asylum in Britain, Bakri claimed and received more than a quarter of a million pounds in benefits, funded ultimately by the British taxpayers he so ardently despised.
