India: India, America, Hold Military Exercises
Is this a sign of an deepening Indo-American alliance? (Click here to see my previous speculation.)Common enemies--Islam in this case--tend to bring countries together. At any rate, here is the story: Indo-US air exercise begins amid Left protest
COPE India 2005, the Indo-US joint air exercise began at the Kalaikunda today amid tight security as tens of thousands of Left supporters gathered near the airbase to voice their protest.According to reports reaching here, Indian and US aircraft made several sorties as part of the joint exercise without any problem.
Kalaikunda Air Force authorities had taken up proper security measures to ensure smooth joint exercise.
The district authorities of West Midanpore had also tightened security measures around the airbase. Over 1000 policemen had been deployed to prevent any untoward incident.
Though there was tension outside, it had no impact inside the Kalaikunda Air Base. Hectic activities were going on inside the Air Base and both the US and the Indian Air force were working together to make the exercise a grand success, the reports said.
