France: Muslim Riots Aren't Muslim, States Muslim
The riots by Muslim youth in Paris continued for the ninth consecutive night. The press which at first refused to acknowledge that the riots were by Muslims, has acknowledged the religion of the rioters, but only when adding that these are disaffected, oppressed and neglected youth, alienated from a hostile and uncaring society.
These poor disaffected youths have now destroyed more than 4000 cars, have fired live guns at police, have injured one fireman by throwing a molotov cocktail into his face, and on a bus in Sevran, they have poured petrol onto a disabled woman and then ignited the bus she was in, giving her 20% burns.
The politicians in France are now blaming Nicolas Sarkozy, with three opposition politicians calling for his resignation. Dominique de Villepin yesterday did his act of token "consultation", by talking to 16 youths, aged 18-25, to talk about the "difficulties" they face. Such behaviour is highly inappropriate at this time, and to ask a bunch of street youth to effectively advise on government policy appears farcical. But, according to the BBC, one of those in de Villepin's consultation, a student from Bondy, said "We get the impression that we have been heard...(he) was genuinely seeking to deal with the problems." Well Mr de Villepin will be able to put that on his posters in the impending election. But though it may have been useful for his own kudos, it has achieved nothing as far as quelling the violence is concerned.
Last night 900 cars were burned, with 656 of these in Paris. In other parts of France, the unrest has spread now to Nice, Marseille, Pau and Toulouse in the south, and Lille in the north. Violence continued in Dijon in the central east, and also in Rouen and now Rennes in the west of France.
In the Paris suburbs, a school was set on fire. A nursery school was set ablaze in Yvelines, Trappes, and another in Bretigny-sur-Orgeand, and a school was set on fire in Seine-et-Marne. 253 people have been arrested in Paris last night alone.
Perhaps sensing the damage this unbridled anarchy may cause for the image of Islam, an Imam from the Seine-Saint-Denis department has condemned the attacks, the first Imam in more than a week to actually condemn the atrocities. Zuhair Burail of the Tariq Bin Ziyad mosque said to IslamOnline that "Devout Muslims would never do such actions which run in the face of basic Islamic tenets against sabotage."
The imam of the Clichy-Sous-Bois mosque, Daw Meskine, concurred. "Security forces have not implicated any pious Muslims in the rioting and violence, behind the clashes with the police," he said. Only the impious Muslims are venting their anger in the Parisian suburbs, it appears. This is reassuring news. The Muslims who are not pious are causing the destruction, while Muslim leaders, who represent the pious and who for the first few days hoped to make political capital from the orgies of destruction, finally acknowledge that the riots are not a "good thing."
Last night, to be fair, several Muslim groups did actually try to intervene in the rioting at Clichy, according to the BBC. Their interventions have evidently achieved nothing.
