UK: Muslim Mosque Mayhem

Today's icnewcastle reports that a dispute over a mosque in South Shields has ended in a massive brawl, with rival followers of the "religion of peace" attacking each other with sticks. Four people have been arrested.

The dispute apparently has been waiting to happen for some time, with two mosques on Baring Street in the city engaged in rivalry, mostly between two groups of families. The new mosque had been mentioned on Bangladeshi TV, and it is thought these remarks had led to the outbreak of fighting.

The incident happened yesterday at 4.30 pm, as children leaving school were confronted with the spectacle of two gangs, one of about 20 individuals, and the other of about 30, laying into each other in the street.

A spokesperson from Northumbria police said

"The dispute was between two mosques on Baring Street. There were some people with minor injuries such as cuts and bruises, but it was not a riot situation. It is important members of these communities talk to resolve their issues rather than resorting to violence."
This bland statement seems to ignore the fact that followers of the "religion of peace" are usually hopeless at resolving disputes through talking. Expect more violence in Baring Street.
