Iran: Save the Mannequins!
If I was a creative writer (which, as your eyes can see, I'm not), and I came up with a satirical story about Iran like this one, editors would throw me out of the room. Really, you can't make this stuff up: Morality for dummies as Iranian police remove mannequins
POLICE in north-eastern Iran have launched a new morality drive by confiscating alluring mannequins from boutiques and clothes stalls in the bazaar, authorities in the city of Bojnourd said yesterday.A spokesman for the city's judiciary said that the drive would help tackle problems of "public chastity". Some 65 mannequins have so far been impounded.
He added the crackdown was part of a wider offensive against anti-social behaviour such as vandalism.
Bojnourd owes its traditional religious climate to the nearby shrine city of Mashhad, a focal point of pilgrimage for the world's Shiite Muslims.
P.S. At first, I thought I'd use Save the Dummies! as the title for this post. But I was afraid you would think I wanted to save the Mad Iraninan Mullahs....
