UK: Muslim Council for Britain Opposes Terror Laws, Naturally

A senior figure for the Muslim Council for Britain, the self-appointed "spokesgroup" for all UK Muslims, has criticised the new anti-terror laws. The organisation, though lauded by Tony Blair has been discredited as of late through its associations with terror-supporting groups.

Some of its senior figures are rabidly anti-semitic too. Inayat Bunglawala, the MCB's media representative, has accused the BBC of being "pro-Israel" and was part of a team which concluded that Britain's Holocaust Memorial Day should be banned, because it made Muslims feel "left out". Maybe Bunglawala, who praised as "courageous" Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahman (who tried to blow up the World Trade Center in 1993) and called Osama bin Laden an "Islamic scholar" will now write a letter to the United Nations, for today they are voting on a resolution to institute a World Holocaust Memorial Day, according to Reuters.

The secretary general of the MCB, "Sir" Iqbal Sacranie, famously did not attend this year's Holocaust Memorial Day ceremonies, but he did find time to go to a remembrance service for the founder of terrorist organisation Hamas, Sheikh Yassin. Sacranie argued that Hassin was a "freedom fighter". This problem of working out when one man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist is the subject of a new complaint from the MCB.

The latest member of this unrepresentative and dishonest organisation to try to make some headlines is Abdurahman Jafar, vice chairman of the legal affairs committee of the MCB. He said in a statement to the UK Parliament's joint committee on human rights that he feared a really "horrific counter-productive effect" from the new bill, because of the proposed offence of "glorifying terrorism".

He said the law risked weakening the Muslim community's commitment to fight terrorism. The Bill was approved by the House of Commons, but needs to be ratified in the House of Lords before it becomes Law. Jafar, according to Boston.com, via AP, states that the new law confuses: "the issue of illegitimate attacks against peaceful democracies, with legitimate acts of resistance against illegitimate regimes around the world."

Ghandi helped bring about the end of the British Raj without once firing a gun or telling others to fire guns, let alone suicide attacks and bombs. Jafar is showing once again how the MCB supports terrorism, but does not want to be seen admitting this.
