UK: Swindon Mosque Attack - Youth Charged

In sharp contrast to our previous article, a more predictable story of disgruntled youth. A story from today's Wiltshire Evening Advertiser describes how a 16 year old male from Swindon, southwest England, was today remanded in custody, accused of setting fire to a mosque in Swindon.

At Swindon Crown Court, Judge Tom Longbotham was told that the 16-year old's most serious charge was "arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered". At the start of Ramadan, a fire was started at the Jamia Mosque on Broad Street.

The youth is also accused of daubing a swastika and racist graffiti on the Sikh temple in Kembrey Street between September 20 and 30, and committing a similar act at the Jamia Mosque on September 21. He is further charged with racially aggravated damage to the mosque on October 4.

He is to remain in custody until Friday December 2, when he will reappear to enter his pleas against the four charges made against him.
