Malaysia: Muslim "Refugees" Update

What is going on? It is not clear what Malaysia will do, as rumors fly around:

From the Bangkok Post: Thai Muslim refugees may return from Malaysia next week

Kuala Lumpur (dpa) - The 131 Thai Muslims who return fled their homes in southern Thailand might return after next weekend's Eid al-Fitr festival marking the end of Ramadan, news reports said Sunday.

Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak said the his government was still in the midst of arranging meetings with Thai authorities on the matter, the Star newspaper reported.

From Reuters: Malaysia says Thai Muslims opt not to return home

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 (Reuters) - None of 131 Thai Muslims taking refuge in Malaysia has chosen to return home in southern Thailand despite Bangkok's promise to ensure their security, Malaysia's deputy prime minister said on Monday.

The group, in Malaysian custody since late August, is the largest to have fled to Malaysia from recent troubles in southern Thailand, where nearly 1,000 people have died in violence between Muslims and Thai security forces since January 2004.
