Pakistan: Tanweer - Muslim Fanatic and 7/7 Killer Buried In Holy Ground

bastard.jpgAccording to the BBC Shehzad Tanweer, or the lumps that remained of him, was buried today in Pakistan. His parents flew the lumps in yesterday and they were buried near his ancestral town of Samundari.

Tanweer, aged 22 at the time of his suicide assault, was born in Bradford, and had lived in Beeston, Leeds. Forensic evidence proved he had committed the Aldgate blast on the London Underground, which killed seven people and permanently maimed many more.

The funeral was arranged by his uncle, Tahir Pervais, and 100 to 150 people attended the funeral, which was held in the compound surrounding the shrine of a local Islamic saint.

Despite the rubbish spouted about the 7/7 bombers being integrated into UK society, claimed by A. Sivanandan, the self appointed "race relations expert", the fact that Tanweer had been to Pakistan and had become radicalised there showed that, by the time of the 7/7 bombings, he was never really a part of British society, despite helping out in his father's fish and chip shop. His parents obviously think he belongs in Pakistan, near an Islamic "saint". Perhaps they felt his grave would be vandalised if it were in Britain.

Tanweer had been enthusiastic about sports. He had trophies in his room of his achievements. He excelled in cricket, triple jump, long-distance running and football. He became a radical Muslim in his early 20s, and went to Pakistan in the months before he committed murder. He attended a madrassa where he studied the Koran and Arabic but returned because he found it too demanding. Instead of getting a job, he spent most of his time back in the UK attending a mosque/madrassa in Stratford Street 3 to 5 times a day, while his family attended another Mosque in nearby Hardy Street.

In the light of revelations of Tanweer attending a madrassa in his country, Pervez Musharraf stated after the 7/7 bombings that all foreigners attending the madrassas in Pakistan would have to leave the country. He also stated that he would crack down on anti-Western hate speeches in recordings and in mosques. The article we gave yesterday, from the sermon by Hafiz Abdur Rehman Makki at the Jamia Quba mosque near Islamabad, shows how ineffective or mendacious his comments have been.

I do not want this to appear as an obituary or an epitaph for Tanweer. He murdered and he maimed because he chose to do so. He was not forced to kill. An interesting article about Tanweer was written about his "motivations" by Federico Jimenez Losantos in the Spain Herald. I will quote part of it.

What material and moral misery brought him to kill people in such brutal fashion? The answer is quite simple: none. He did it because there are wicked Muslims capable of convincing young people that dying while slaughtering innocents is the way to Paradise. And he did it because there are wicked young people who find in this religion the excuse they are looking for to indulge in crime or reasons for not committing suicide alone, but instead by taking others with them, thus making them feel more important. Then, there is the responsibility, or better put, the irresponsibility, of those who instead of hunting terrorism, justify it referring to that sea of golden, comfortable injustice; that sea where fanatics prosper in the shadow of idiots.
