South Africa: Muslim Woman Dismissed For Wearing Hijab
In the estern Cape, a Muslim women has been dismissed from her spost as a social worker at Worcester Prison, for wearing a headscarf with her uniform, according to SABC News.
The woman, Fairouz Adams, had worn the hijab with her standard uniform, and had been dismissed by the department of correctional services for violating the department's corporate identity, states Eddie Johnson, the department's spokesperson. He added that under the department's disciplinary procedures, she has a right to appeal the decision.
Fairouz Adams has been given a penalty of a written warning, and sanctions against her will remain in place for six months.
