Latvia: Islamists From EU Will Be Barred From Entry

The Baltic state of Latvia has announced that any persons who are deemed a threat to security, through associations with recent terror attacks, will be opposed when they attempt to enter Latvia.

The news comes from Russian site Regnum, in an article entitled "Latvia to forbid the country to Islamic fundamentalists evicted from other EU countries". The announcement was made by Latvian former Prime Minister, and current Head of the Parliamentary Defense Committee, Indulis Emsis. Recent media reports had indicated that Islamic fundamentalists were showing an interest in Latvia.

Speaking at a closed Committee, Emsis noted that nations such as Britain were strengthening their anti-terror laws, and stated that Latvia too must think along similar lines. The security forces were analyzing the situation, but were planning to amend legisation on the issue. Currently there is no specific legislation to cover the denying of entry to the country of such people.
