UK: Islamist Lied About 7/7 Links
We brought you the report from the News of the World, wherein Imran Patel of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire had claimed to its reporter that he had been involved with the 4-man cell which carried out explosions on London Transport on 7/7, which killed 52 people.
Patel was arrested by police on Saturday night, but it now transpires that he had fabricated his story. Today, Reuters reports that 27-year old Patel has been charged, not under the Terrorism Act, but for wasting police time, namely causing "wasteful employment of the police by knowingly making to Mazher Mahmood (a journalist) a false report".
Patel will appear before magistrates later today. The News of the World was not available for comment.
