Thailand: More Islamists Arrested, More Islamists Kill Again in South
We reported that a 76-year old Buddhist monk and two teenagers were killed in a temple on October 15, in Pattani province, in the south of Thailand. The killers had set the temple on fire. The Bangkok Post reports that four more suspects have been detained, bringing the total number so far to 18. The arrests were made in the Panare district of the province. The names of the suspects have not been revealed, but they are suspected of involvement with the slitting the throats of monk Phra Kaew Kusalo and the two boys, at Wat Phromprasit in Panare district.
In other news from the region, in Narathiwat province, a police officer was badly injured by a bomb placed under his pick-up truck in Rueso district Wednesday morning, around 7 am. The bomb, triggered by a mobile phone caused shrapnel injuries to Police Senior Sergeant-Major Haydeeing's legs and body.
Again in Narathiwat, insurgents ambushed a military team in Rangea district, wounding one soldier from their gunfire, around 3.45 am.
In Yaring district in Pattani province, a village defence volunteer was shot dead and a police officer was injured. The two had been tallking outside a house when armed men opened fire, wounding Police Colonel Suriyan in the ear. Useng Masae, the defence volunteer received serious gunshot wounds and died in hospital.
