UK: Another "Muslim-Sensitive" Ban on Pigs
What is it about pigs in Britain right now? We have council offices banning images of pigs, which had caused such controversy that the ban may be lifted. We have had banks banning images of piggy banks in their outlets and advertising, because they "might" offend Muslim customers. What is next? Schools!

The BBC earlier reported that in West Yorkshire, a head teacher has proclaimed a veto on the telling of stories that feature pigs. So, no more tales of the "Three Little Pigs", no "Winnie the Pooh" stories, because they feature Piglet, no Beatrix Potter's Pigling Bland", no nursery rhymes along the lines of "This Little Piggy Went to Market".
This move has been made by Barbara Harris, headmistress at the Park Road Junior Infant and Nursery School in Batley. The ban affects all teaching of under sevens. She has made the move because 60% of her pupils are Pakistani or Indian in origin, and 99% of these are "Muslim". She has ordered all books with images and stories containing pigs to be removed from the classrooms of the younger children.
Mrs Harris said "Recently I have been aware of an occasion where young Muslim children in class were read stories about pigs.We try to be sensitive to the fact that for Muslims talk of pigs is offensive."
There is one small compensation. The books which she has declared a fatwa upon are still retained in the school library, and she says "there is nothing to stop our younger children having stories such as "The Three Little Pigs" in small groups."
But the sensitive infants must not see images of pigs, it seems.
Perhaps she could also allow the under-sevens to hear certain stories from Islam, where unbelievers are transformed into pigs and apes. (Koran: 5:55 - 5:61, Bukhari's Hadith, Vol IV, No 524) Without offensive pictures of course.

The world has many thingings init plain and simple. Some times these things give pleasure some times not. Learning to deal with the displeasure is as much apart of learning to functionin the world as learning not to be over come with pleasures for there own sake.
Some times we win, some times we loose, some things make us cry, some make us laugh.
Thethings that make uslaughtoday maymake us crytommorow, or crying to day may be a sourseof laughter tommorow. You can not cut outthe unpleasant just like you can not stamp out the pleasant. Life is fullof many things whetheryou like them or not. Learning to deal with these things, and move around them is key to functioning in society. Secluding people from the world, becauseyou do not want them to experience the world is teaching negligence, and youultimatly do them the greater harm. This is my opinion
