Israel: Islamic Jihad Leader Killed by IDF

We mentioned last night a breaking news report that a man had been shot dead in Tulkarem. Today, Arutz Sheva confirmed that the man, Loie Sa'adi, was a leader of the Islamic Jihad organisation. Sa'adi had been involved with the suicide bombing at the Stage nightclub in Tel Aviv, the suicide bombing at a shopping mall in Natanya, an attempted attack on the Jewish community of Shavei Shomron in Samaria, and placing a car bomb next to the Jewish community of Mevo Dotan in northern Samaria. He was also involved in three plans to send suicide bombers into Jerusalem.

Al Jazeera added that Majid al-Ashqar, an al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade member, was also killed with al-Sa'adi in Tulkarem. Six Palestinians were also detained during the operation. The Israeli army placed a curfew on Tulkarem, including the Nur al-Shams Palestinian refugee camp, after the operation. Elsewhere in the West Bank, 26 Palestinians were detained overnight,

Other news from Israel - two Hamas operatives have been detained on terrorism charges in Israel, according to Arutz Sheva. The two men are from Nazareth and Kafr Manda, and have confessed to acts carried out for Hamas in the 1990s. The pair had gone to Turkey for terrorist training before returning to Israel, where they have citizenship. They were arrested last month in Galilee.

Nazmi Hussain and Abd a-Salaam Zidan were both dentists. According to Supt Shmuel Boker, the commissioner of the Central Command of the Galilee, Hussain had become radicalised while abroad, listening at a mosque in Romania to speeches inspired by the Muslim Brotherhood. He underwent training exercises in Turkey, and was asked to find other Israeli Arabs to recruit. He then conscripted Zidan, who was in Romania studying. It appears the two men were employed in information-gathering for Hamas.
