Ethiopia: Illegal Arms Cache Found
Ethiopian police stated today that they have found a large cache of weapons in the northern state of Amhara, according to China People's Daily. The haul was discovered in the town of Denbia following a tip-off, and included 26 Kalashnikovs and various other rifles, and 200 ammunitions. 26 people were arrested and placed in custody, in connection with the discovery.
Police found leaflets inciting violence, a police spokesperson said, adding that they were the work of "opposition parties".
Since the country's elections on Ma 15, there has been a number of outbreaks of violence in Ethiopia. Final election results indicate that the ruling Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Party (EPRDF) has 327 of the 547-seat lower House of People's Representatives, a clear enough majority to form a federal government.
The other two parties received: 109 seats for the Voalition for Unity and Democracy(CUD), and 52 for the United Ethiopian Democratic Force (UEDF). The two oposition parties have accused the ruling party (which has been in power now for 14 years) of electoral fraud, and have boycotted the first session of parliament.
