Bosnia: Two Islamist "Suicide Bombers" Detained
According to the BBC from within the last 40 minutes, two men have been arrested, accused of planning a suicide attack. The two individuals, detained under anti-terrorism legislation, are being held in Sarajevo.
One is said to have recorded a video reciting Islamic prayers, which may been intended as a valedictory message, to be found after his death. One holds a Swedish passport, and the other a Turkish passport, but both are thought to have come from the former nation of Yugoslavia.
Sources close to the investigation sate that the pair were carrying explosives when arrested. Weapons and other military equipment were found at premises linked to the two individuals. A third man, from Bosnia, was also arrested, but is being held at a separate location.
There have been several suggestions that Islamists may have been using Bosnia as a base, but this is the first time there has been any tangible evidence. The Islamists' target is unknown. The chief international envoy to Bosnia, Lord Ashdown, said the matter was serious, but also indicated that Bosnia was a capable partner in the war against terror.
