Afghanistan: Nine Policemen Killed in Taliban Ambush
Nine police were killed in a Taliban ambush in the southern province of Helmland, according to Yahoo. The incident, in which a journalist was also killed, took place when a police convoy, on the hunt for a militant hideout, were attacked by gunmen. Four Taliban also died in the exchanges, according to a press release issued on Saturday by the provincial administration's deputy chief, Ghulam Moheedin.
More than 1400 people have been killed so far this year in acts of political violence. Meanwhile, thousands of people marched in Khost yesterday, in a protest against the Newsweek report, in which two Taliban were shown being cremated, in defiance of Islamic custom.
