Trinidad and Tobago: Islamic TV Starts Soon
Muslims in Trinidad and Tobago have always longed to get onto the television - during the attempted Islamist coup of 1990, during which 20 people were killed, Muslims hijacked the headquarters of TTT, the national broadcasting station.
After recent Islamic bombings in Trinidad, there is now a chance for Trinidadian Muslims who are not playing with explosives to watch a new Islamic TV station. The Islamic Broadcast Network (IBN) is a local concern, and is now all ready to start broadcasting next week, according to Trinidad Express. It will be broadcasting on the Cable Company of Trinidad and Tobago (CCTT), but still needs to have its "number" finalised.
The station will not need a licence, as it is considered a "content provider" for CCTT. Inshan Ishmael said the station is ready for airing, and is waiting for a few tests to be carried out by CCTT. He said "We must say, we are very pleased with the treatment we have gotten from CCTT. They have shown they work towards the betterment of the people of Trinidad and Tobago, so when they say go we will go."
Muslims comprise 9% of the total population of Trinidad and Tobago.
Hopefully IBN's programming will be better than the Islamic cable fare offered up in Britain, which includes regular shows by nikab-veiled hostage-turned-convert Yvonne Ridley. She may have been a journalist, but she is not a "TV natural". Come to think of it - she's not natural at all....
