UK: Guardian Journalist Freed
In a breaking news item from Le Monde, the journalist Roy Carroll, who was abducted yesterday by gunmen in Baghdad, has been freed. He was released Thursday evening.
Carroll, 33, was lucky. Le Monde states that "before his case, eight foreign journalists have been kidnapped since the start of this year: one Italian, two Indonesians, Three Romanians, an American and Florence Aubenas. Seven had been freed and the eighth, an independent American journalist, Steven Vincent, had been killed at Basra (in the south) on the same day as his capture."
