Indonesia: Two Arrested in Bali Blast Probe, then Released
On Tuesday, another arrest was made in the search for the perpetrators of the recent Bali bombings, according to the Jakarta Post. On Tuesday, two men were taken by police in the town of Tomohon in North Sulawesi province, following information from local residents. However, after two days in custody, hey were released as insufficient evidence linked them to the bombings of October 1, stated police spokesperson Sunarko Danu Ardanto.
On Monday, two men detained on the island of Java on October 12 were released, and "Hanan" the first suspect detained in connection with the bombing was released last week.
Officials have said that the Malaysians, Noordin Mohammed Top, and Azahari Husin, leading members of Jemaah Islamiyah, may have been instigators of the attacks, which killed 26 people. The pair are also believed to have played a crucial role in the 2002 Bali bombings, which left 202 dead. An expert on Jemaah Islamiyah has suggested that as the number of Muslims killed in the recent attack dismayed the JI command structure, the pair may have broken away from the main group to set up their own force. The bombings on Bali are already having negative effects on Bali's economy. Today, Japan's largest airline, JAL, announced that it would be reducing its flights to the island, following a drop in demand for tourism since the blasts. 13,000 customers have cancelled proposed flights, between the months of October and December, stated Jakarta Post
