Bangladesh: Islamist Bombings to Recommence After Ramadan
In a report from the Daily Star, the militant groups Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh and Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh have plans to stage another set of blasts across Bangladesh as soon as Ramadan is over. The information came from a JMB member seized on Wednesday in Netrakona.
In another case, Abu Taleb (Babul Ansari) the assistant security officer of the parliament secretariat and four other members of his organisation "Allah Dar" were each taken on a further five day remand. Two more members of the group were taken in Meherpur.
The Netrakona arrestees were a 27 year old man called Kawser Alam Sumon and his sister Beauty, aged 22. During the raid at Sumon's house, videos of Afghan and Chechen warfare and Osama bin Laden speeches were taken. Sumon's mobile phone was also taken.
Apparently Sumon confessed yesterday to coordinating the local stage of the nationwide serial bombings on Aug 17, responsiblle for bombs at Netrakona, Kishoreganj and Mymensingh districts.
Sumon under interrogation also said he is not at all worried for being detained. "I won't worry even if I'm to be executed as I have dedicated myself to bringing about an Islamic revolution across the globe," an investigator quoted Sumon as saying. He was given a seven day remand. Sumon confessed that he had carried out the Aug 17 bombings at the behest of the leader of JMB, Abdur Rahman. In relation to the forthcoming post-Ramadan bombings, Sumon confessed that "Two or three days ago, our chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman called me on my mobile phone and asked me get prepared for carrying out another round of bomb attacks at the end of Ramadan", according to a police spokesman.
