India: Eight Islamists Killed
Yesterday, in the region of Kashmir 140 kilometres north of Srinagar, a clash took place between the Indian military and suspected Islamists, according to Dawn. The militants' spokesgroup, the United Jihad Council, had announced on Monday that a unilateral ceasefire during this period of post-earthquake relief operations, but nonetheless, a group was intercepted by Indian troops crossing the "Line of Control".
There was an exchange of fire, and eight of the suspected Islamists were killed. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the dead, a police spokesman stated.
