France: Eiffel Tower Evacuated After Bomb Threat
In Paris yesterday, one of the world's landmarks, the Eiffel Tower, was evacuated following an anonymous phone call, threatening an imminent bombing, according to expressindia. The phone call was made to a Paris police station, and all visitors were asked to leave the 324-metre tall edifice. Explosive experts were called to the scene, in a routine precaution. Last year the Eiffel Tower had 6 million visitors.
In Britain during the mid 1970s, there used to be several "prank" bomb hoaxes during the height of the IRA's terror campaign. When people who were caught were given stiff sentences, including imprisonment, the phenomenon declined. In today's worried times, such hoaxes should be punished severely.
