UK: Abu Hamza's Lawyer Investigated
In the briefest of reports from Britain's popular tabloid newspaper, The Sun, there is the briefest of news items, which explains how the woman below, who is Muddassar Arani, the lawyer for detained, hook-handed Abu Hamza al-Masri, is under investigation. It is claimed that the investigtaion concerns whether she attempted to poach clients from rival law firms. If it is found that she breached strict rules, she could either be struck off or fined 5,000 pounds ($8,000).
In the UK claims against lawyers are dealt with by the Law Society. From my own experience of making complaints to this body, which is made up of lawyers anyway, there is usually a reluctance to find any lawyer guilty of anything, unless the case is in the public eye or is unquestionably criminal in nature.
I have seen this woman before, filmed at a "Stop the War" protest outside the US Embassy, where she came across as a spokeswoman for the demonstrators. Perhaps the reason that the Sun have been so brief in their mention of her is for this reason. She is actively campaigning against them for an article that was previously written about her.
