Venezuela: Swift Walk Towards Communism Continues

Why should you work to buy your own land, when you can steal it from its rightful owners: Venezuelans march in support of land plan

CARACAS, Venezuela - Thousands of poor farmers marched through Venezuela's capital Saturday demanding that the government expand its initiative to expropriate what they called "idle" land - a program that has raised the ire of cattle ranchers across the country.

Chanting "The Land Belongs To All!" and waving Venezuelan flags, roughly 4,000 supporters of President Hugo Chavez demanded that the land be handed over those willing to work it.

"In this country there's too much land in the hands of too few," said Juan Santos, 46. "Giving the poor people a parcel of land shouldn't cause so much conflict, it's an act of justice."

When the Soviet Union went down in flames, it seemed as if the threat from Communism was over. Later events have shown, that was hardly the case.
