UK: Government Prepared to "Compromise" on Terror Laws

In a report this afternoon from Reuters, the government of Britain seems ready to make more compromises on the content of the legislation contained in the Terror bill, which is due to be presented to parliament this week. The parliament will return this week after a long summer recess, but cabinet minister Geoff Hoon has indicated that the legislation is still open for debate.

"We have made clear all along that this bill is for discussion and debate. We have recognised it does contain a number of measures which will excite interest," he said when asked about the proposal to detain suspects for up to 90 days.
We have mentioned how already the Home Secretary, Charles Clarke, has diluted some of the provisions he had previously outlined. According to Reuters, Hoon's reaction has followed the indications suggested by the Attorney General and member of Blair's government, Lord Goldsmith. We gave details of these recommendations below.
