Pakistan: Muslim Rapists of Christian Child Should be Sued
We brought you, in some detail, the story of 12 year old Sara Tabasum, the Christian child abducted and raped by associates of their former neighbours, Perveen and Babar Bibi. As well as being raped and beaten, exhortations were made upon the child to convert to Islam, under threat of death. She escaped and managed to return to her family in Rawalpindi, and her case was taken up by APMA, the All Pakistan Minorities Alliance.
In a report from the Pakistan Online News the APMA has called for the government to arrest the 16 men alleged to have raped Sara, and prosecute them. APMA Chairman, Mr Shahbaz Bhatti, after talking to the family said:
"This horrific, brutal and shameful act is continuously ignored by government authorities despite of the protests and demands from different organizations and victim family.He further said that since going public with details of the incident, some of the culprits have made threats to the family, in an attempt to stop them pursuing their case.Even no government authority condemned the incident nor visited the victim's family, which shows insincere and irresponsible behaviour of the government to tackle issues of women. As a result of this negligence, incidents of rape, kidnapping, torture, and gang rape are on the rise and the victimized women are begging for justice and protection to save their dignity and honour."
