Nigeria: Sharia over Kano
Kano is a Muslim city in northern Nigeria. It has been one of the leading anti-Christian enclaves in the Muslim north. Now some official promises to implement the principles of Sharia in urban planning, whatever that means: New land commissioner pledges to work in line with Sharia
KANO state new Commissioner for land and physical planning, Alhaji Garba Yusuf Abubakar has pledged to work on the principles of Sharia while steering the affairs of the ministry.The commissioner gave the indication while receiving the board members of Kano State Urban, Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA) on a courtesy visit at his office last week.
Alhaji Abubakar said that KNUPDA is a very sensitive organisation and called on it to be constant in its board meeting and ensure that, they deliberate judiciously on decisions that would assist government and people of the state.
My best guess: "Applying the principles of Shaira" to urban planning means he will not allow establishments that sell beer, pork, etc. But it is only a guess.
