Bali: Death Toll Rises to 26
As the death toll now rises to 26 from Saturday's Bali bombings, the Independent quotes police chief Made Mangku Pastika, who said of the three suspects:
"There is evidence that the explosive materials were attached to the body. There are pieces from either a jacket or a bag that were attached to the bodies."He said that the severed heads of the three suspects had been recovered. Photographs of the heads displayed by the police show they are of young Asian men. I have seen the photographs this morning on FFI's forum. They can be accessed by clicking HERE. The police have said that a family had unwittingly captured one of the bombers on video. Dressed in black shirt and jeans, he was seen walking into the restaurant with something on his back. He disappears out of the screen at one point, and seconds later there is a flash as the bomb detonates.
The Indonesian police have no evidence to confirm if Jemaah Islamiyah are behind the attacks, but the Independent notes the points made yesterday that Azahari bin Husin and Noordin Mohamed Top are still southeast Asia's most wanted men, who have been on the run since the 2002 Bali bombings. In Malaysia bin Husin is nick-named the "demolition man" and Top is known as the "money man". The pair are identified by the police as their main suspects in the present bombing investigation, but so far they have no concrete evidence of their involvement.
