Solar Eclipse Causes Chaos at Ramadan

We told you earlier, on September 24th, that because of a partial solar eclipse tomorrow, on October 3rd, that Ramadan should start on Tuesday 4th. We thought that the issue was settled, but it seems various Imams have been tripping up over their abayas to give their own account of the actual date.

In IslamOnline from September 29, it was announced that due to the eclipse, the month of Ramadan would start on Wednesday 5th. A further article in IslamOnline from the 1st October then admitted that as the eclipse would be visible in some parts of the world and not others, it was causing confusion. Some scholars felt that all Muslims should follow astronomical events as viewed from Mecca, while others argued that the sighting of the moon from a particular area and time should fix the start of Ramadan, and another faction said that Islam was against division and disunity.

With all this confusion, today, Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi decided to step into the fray and put out a fatwa. He is a "spiritual consultant" for this website, so it is no wonder they take his fatwas seriously. So, according to the "fatwa" in today's IslamOnline:

"Therefore, the beginning of Ramadan - if the moon is sighted Monday - will fall on Tuesday, October 4."

Well, poor Muslims out there, not knowing when to start your festival. Instead of waiting for the homophobic old Sheikh to make his tardy announcement, you should have listened to Western Resistance.

We always maintained it began on Tuesday 4th, and now the potty Sheikh agrees. There's nothing more fun than sneering "WE TOLD YOU SO!"
