Indonesia: Bali Bombings Were "Suicide Attacks"
In a report from the BBC, a senior Indonesian anti-terrorism expert has claimed that yesterday's Bali bombs, which killed at least 26 people, were carried out by suicide bombers. Major General Ansyaad Mbai claimed that the remains of their bodies were discovered among the debris at the scenes of the blasts in Jimbaran Beach and Kuta. He also added that the attacks seemed to be the handiwork of Jemaah Islamiyah. He claimed that three attackers entered restaurants shortly after sunset, and detonated explosive vests.
"I have seen them. All that is left is their head and feet," he told the Associated Press news agency.The bombs seem to have been packed with ball bearings, to maximise casualties. Vicky Griffiths, an Australian survivor, said X-Rays had confirmed ball-bearings were embedded in her back.
Major General Ansyaad Mbai said two Malaysians were suspected of planning the strikes, Azahari bin Husin and Noordin Mohamed Top, who have been on the run from authorities since the Bali attacks of 2004.
