US: Boston Muslims Angry at Governor's Wiretap Comments
In a report from IslamOnline, Muslims in Boston are outraged by Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney's remarks that, in the war against terror, certain mosques should be "bugged". On September 14, in a speech to the Heritage Foundation, Romney claimed that mosques blamed for glorifying terrorism should be wiretapped. He further stated that foreign students from countries which Washington listed as "sponsors of terrorism" should be closely monitored.
Muslims, who are still a minority in Boston, numbering 200,000, stressed that he was sacrificing the state's smaller Muslim vote in favour of a tough line on homeland security. Mitt Romney is expected to try a bid for the presidential nomination in 2008.
If you click on the link above, you can read some of the comments that have been made. Since there ARE mosques in the US which have not only glorifed terrorism, but have actively helped to sponsor terrorism, the remarks originally made by the governor are absolutely sensible. Anyone who is seeking to deny that future terror attacks in the US are likely to either come from Islamic visitors or residents is not only denying a fundamental fact, but is showing more concern about their own special status as a "persecuted minority" rather than being concerned about the welfare and security of the country they have chosen to inhabit. Romney was referring to mosques that were "blamed for glorifying terrorism" which should be bugged. What is wrong with that? What do these Boston Muslims have to get so upset about? To quote Shakespeare: "Methinks thou protesteth too much." If you are truly innocent, then what is there to hide?
