UK: Failed Suicide Bomb Suspect Returns
Hussain Osman, the suspected wannabe suicide bomber who had fled to Italy to evade justice, has now returned to Britain. He was taken in handcuffs and body restraints to Clampino airport, and flown from there to Britain, where he was then whisked off to Paddington Green's high security police station. There he was charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and explosives offences. These were to do with the failed bomb attacks on London Transport, which happened on July 21, a fortnight after 7/7.
He is thought to have tried to blow himself up on a tube train in Shepherd's Bush, but ludicrously claimed while in Italy that the rucksack was packed with flour and was meant to scare. It is widely believed that the rucksacks belonging to Hussain Osman and the other three suspects contained acetone peroxide, the same chemical that had been so deadly on 7/7, but being two weeks old, it had fortunately lost its "fizz". Osman was the last of the four to be returned to British detention. Another man is linked to the group, said to have discarded a rucksack which failed to explode. The five men are expected to be tried next year. All are due to appear at the Old Bailey on 14th November.
According to today's Daily Telegraph, Osman, 27, also has been called Hamdi Isaac, and was born in Ethiopia.
