US: Missouri Muslim Charity Loses Appeal
An article from the St Louis Post-Dispatch reveals that an Islamic charity has failed in its appeal to have its assets unfrozen. The Islamic American Relief Agency, based in Columbia, Missouri, had its assets frozen last year after being raided by federal agents from the Department of the Treasury. It had been accused of raising funds to support Al-Qaeda.
In the appeal case, US District Judge Reggie B. Walton confirmed that the federal department's actions were "supported by substantial evidence" and "warranted by the facts". His decision to refuse the request, and dismiss the case, rested on classified evidence, which could not be publicly revealed.
