Bungling Bunglawala Bungles Again!

It is only one day since Panorama broadcast its astute and unbiased documentary on Muslims, extremism and Britain, but already it has received 250 complaints. I will give it a review later, but for now let me fill you in on how Inayat Bunglawala is making more drama out of the crisis. He already stated that Osama bin Laden was a "Holy Warrior", described below. He should have left it there, but maybe through some compulsion to seek attention, he has added to his blunders. He had previously aired his opinion that during the 1980's, bin Laden was a "freedom fighter" when he led military attacks against the Russians in Afghanistan. This is from today's Financial Times:

Inayat Bunglawala, the council's media secretary who has been appointed by the Home Office as a "convener" of a government working group to combat extremism, told the Financial Times: "He [Mr bin Laden] was a freedom fighter. He was regarded in large sections of the Muslim world before 2001 as a freedom fighter for what he had done in Afghanistan."

He added: "Obviously I don't hold those views now."

Asked whether he regretted his description of Mr bin Laden before the September 11 attacks, he replied: "I don't. At the time he was."

On Wednesday, Bungling Bunglawala is to meet Home Office representatives to confirm his role in the anti-extremist "task force".

Liverpool Riverside Member of Parliament, Louise Ellman, has stated in a report by icsouthlondon that:

the invitation should be withdrawn until Mr Bunglawala explained comments he made about Jewish influence in the British media.

She said: "I am calling on the Home Office to withdraw its invitation and I'm asking Mr Bunglawala to clarify his statements about Jewish people in the media. I heard him on the Radio 4 Today programme recently and he said that there are 'highly-placed friends of Israel' in the media. The invitation for him to be a member of the task force should be withdrawn pending him clarifying his statements, and naming the people he means."

Ms Ellman, who is Jewish, added: "If somebody is going to be in charge of dealing with youth Islamic extremism, it should be made very clear where they are coming from.He should clarify his position before he is given such an important role."

A complete dossier of all of Bunglawala's bungling, with a picture of him striking a very unmasculine pose, can be found in The Daily Telegraph.

Writing for a Muslim youth magazine in 1992, he said: "The chairman of Carlton Communications is Michael Green of the Tribe of Judah. He has joined an elite club whose members include fellow Jews Michael Grade [then the chief executive of Channel 4 and now BBC chairman] and Alan Yentob [BBC2 controller and friend of Salman Rushdie]."

Bunglawala wrote a letter in January 1993 to Private Eye magazine, in which he claimed that the blind fanatic Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman was "courageous". Only a month later, Rahman bombed the World Trade Centre. Rahmam was arrested in July of that year, and Bungler then stated that the reason why the blind old bugger had been arrested was because of his:

"calling on Muslims to fulfil their duty to Allah and to fight against oppression and oppressors everywhere"

Bunglawala has been backed up by the Muslim Council for Britain, which is sending another letter to the BBC, and he is also defended by Sir Iqbal Sacranie. On the BBC Panorama programme Sacranie defended his own attendance at a memorial service for Sheikh Yassin, the ideological head of Palestinian terrorist organisation Hamas. He stated:

"Those who fight oppression, those who fight occupation, cannot be termed as terrorist. They are freedom fighters, in the same way as Nelson Mandela fought against apartheid, in the same way as Gandhi and many others fought British rule in India."

Comparing a champion of terrorist atrocities to Ghandi, the pacifist champion of non-aggressive dissent? Come on Sacranie - which end of your body does the thinking?

Despite the high pitched whining about BBC misrepresentaion, at least there has come an admission from the Muslim Council for Britain that it does not check any of its 400 affiliate organisations for "extremism", as reported today in Science Daily:

The Muslim Council of Britain, which represents more than 400 Islamic groups, says it "assumed" the groups were moderate and thus did not investigate their literature or views.

The council's statement was in response to a BBC program that found the affiliated members had aired extremist views.

One such group, Ahl-e-Hadith of Birmingham, with 41 branches across the country, reportedly said in its Web site asking Muslims to "be different from Jews and Christians" whose "ways are based on sick or deviant views".

If such checks were never made, and the Muslim Council blithely assumed these groups shared its purported claims to be "moderate", then it seems highly unwise for the Home Office to talk to its representatives in its task-force to weed out extremists. Surely they have realised by now that most Muslim groups have a political agenda, and very few of them approve of openly hugging fluffy bunnies.....
