Foiled Al-Qaeda Gas Attack on UK Parliament.
Today's Sunday Times has an intriguing article, claiming that emails and computers seized from terror suspects in Pakistan and Britain contained details of a plot to attack the House of Commons with sarin gas - the toxin used by Aum Shinrikyo sect's deadly assault on the Tokyo underground/subway on March 20, 1995, which killed 12 people and injured 6000 more in 5 co-ordinated "hits".
The ghastly effects of sarin gas can be found here, should anyone doubt its efficiency as an air-borne toxin.
The Sunday Times claims that police and MI5 were able to identify an Al Qaeda cell which had done extensive research for their planned attack, including video surveillance. The encrypted emails were decoded with the aid of an Al Qaeda "supergrass". His revelation of the terrorists's code enabled MI5 and GCHQ (the UK government's "listening" post) to uncover several more plots.
It was this plan to poison the House of Commons which led to increased security at Parliament earlier in the year. As in Japan, there was also a plan to use Sarin on the London Tube system. Worrying....
If one feels a need to worry some more, one could do worse than checking out the online article from Germany's Der Spiegel newspaper, where Jordanian journalist Fouad Hussein gained the trust of Seif al-Adi, an Al Qaeda planner, now a fugitive with a $5 million dollar ransom on his head from the FBI. Now believed to be in hiding in Iran, al-Adi gave Hussein details of Al Qaeda's long-term strategy for terror and ultimate world domination.
