London Bombs - A New Blogsite
In the aftermath of 7/7, it seems the victims of those bombings are fading from the public's consciousness in Britain. The victims are not just those blown apart or permanently maimed, but their friends, their families, their work colleagues. Their trauma lives on.
A Sunday Telegraph reporter, Peter Zimonjic, was travelling on the Circle Line on 7th July when a train on lines parallel to his exploded. He has already given a graphic account of his own experiences as he tried to help victims:
Two teenage sisters from Tennessee huddled together on the floor, surrounded by broken glass and debris.As my eyes adjusted to the gloom I could see an elderly man lying face down. The Arab tried to support the victim's head as I twisted his body away from the floor.
As the injured man's hips started to roll towards us, my helper gazed into the face of the man we were trying to save, then gave me a look that came from very far away. It was no use. This man was dead. We let him slip limply back.
It was the first time I had seen a corpse. I stood up to get my balance and catch my breath. That is when I noticed the second body, or parts thereof.
He has stated in a recent piece for the Telegraph that the trauma still lives with him, and realising that his trauma is one of many, he has started a blogsite, London Recovers. Powered by phpBB, it has a grey spartan design, but it is a site that has the best of intentions. One hopes that it succeeds in its aims.
